ITANAGAR, Aug 7: The Tourism Department today announced the launch of ‘Hunar Se Rozgar Tak’ (HSRT), a skill development training scheme for creation of employable pool of skilled manpower from amongst the youth in the State. The scheme is fully funded by the Ministry of Tourism, GoI.
State Tourism Minister Pema Khandu, while addressing a Press conference in the premises of the Directorate of Tourism here this evening, informed that the scheme would help to inculcate professionalism for various trades in food sector by training the unemployed youths.
The initial target for the department is to train 500 youths under the scheme, he added. The basic objective is to reduce the skill gap that has affected the hospitality and tourism sector as a whole and to put in place a dispensation to ensure that the economic benefit of a growing tourism reaches the poor.
The training programmes are for food production, food & beverages service, housekeeping and bakery. The salient features of the training programmes under HSRT are: the trainees should be in the age group of 18-28 years, class 8 passed, training programme will be of 6 to 8 weeks duration and no fees are chargeable to the trainees.
The HSRT initiative will be implemented through faculties of Tourism & Hotel Management, Rajiv Gandhi Govt Polytechnic and Hotel Donyi Polo Ashoka while the course content has been designed by the National Council of Hotel Management & Catering Technology. Certificates will be issued on completion of the course and efforts will be made for their placement in hotel industries, stated a department handout.
On the sidelines of the press conference, Khandu also informed that the 2nd International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the North Eastern states and West Bengal would be hosted by the State at Tawang, tentatively from Oct 18 to 20. Preparations in this regard are being made earnestly and the department has requested for another helicopter service to Tawang, he said.
Briefing on the ITM, Tourism Secretary Sonam Chombey added that intense business sessions between the domestic tour operators and representatives from other tourism allied business of NE and foreign counterparts were expected in the 3-day-long event. Approximately 150 foreign delegates from 24 countries would converge at Tawang and it would be a great platform for marketing the State’s tourism potential, he added.
Among others, Tourism Director Taru Talo and Deputy Director Bengia Manna Sonam were also present in the press conference.
