| Staff Reporter |
ITANAGAR, Feb 8: The activists of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) today burnt effigy of Chinese Prime Minister Hu Jintao and China-made goods at Akashdeep, Bank Tinali traffic point and near Takar Complex, Naharlagun to protest the repeated Bejing claims over the territory of Arunachal.
From Akashdeep to Bank Tinali, the road witnessed the activists raising slogans: “We are born Indian, we will die Indian”, “Be Indian, Buy Indian”, “Chinese Dragon Hai Hai” and “Bachao, Bachao Arunachal ko Bachao”.
Addressing media persons, AAPSU president Takam Tatung said they are burning the Jintao’s effigy and Chinese goods in the wake of China’s repeated claims over the parts of Arunachal and the “meek diplomatic” stand taken by the government of India. He further informed that this was a symbolic protest and his activist would conduct raids in all shops and destroy Chinese goods and a penalty of 10,000 rupees will be levied on the defaulters.  “We are sending a loud and clear message to China that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable part of India,” AAPSU president asserted.
“The ban and boycott of Chinese products ought to be carried out in right earnest not only by the business community but also by the common people, political leaders and bureaucrats of the state. It should also be understood by the educated class of the state on the complex ramification about the Chinese claims in the long run,” he added, while claiming that the Indian economy has been affected by China making in-roads into Indian markets with the flourishing sales of their cheap products.
The apex students’ organization of the state also claimed that owing to the lackadaisical attitude of the state and central govts, Chabe Chader, a native of Gumsing Taying under Taksing circle of Upper Subansiri district, was allegedly captured by the Chinese Army from Asaphila border area in August 2007.
Questioning the ‘effectiveness’ of security cover along the international border of Arunachal Pradesh, Tatung alleged that the Indian security forces conduct patrolling only thrice a year that too with a team of only 12-member personnel. “Most of the time they hardly reach the main border,” he added.
